If you haven’t heard about it yet, there is a new trend happening in the world of commerce.
There is a return to the ancient practice of bartering.
Bartering, or trading goods and services for other goods and services, without benefit of money, is a fantastic way of doing business. If everyone bartered for everything, everyone would have everything they need, but no one would be wealthy, so it will not work as the sole method of commerce in a capitalist society such as ours. Regardless, I love to barter! I first discovered bartering when my daughter was little and I was going to college. I needed someplace for her to go for a few hours on a couple nights per week, and I decided to enroll her in dance classes. In exchange for the classes, the instructor had me write a newsletter for her. More recently, a heating and cooling company owner contacted me about my SEO writing and social media memes. In exchange for my writing efforts, once again, I am getting a service I need. I am getting my HVAC needs taken care of. I can get a/c repairs made without paying with money! Instead, I just agree to do some work for the HVAC company. I love it! The cooling company owner even agreed to give me more than that because really, how often am I likely to need a/c repairs? He has agreed to send an HVAC technician to the house once a month to replace the a/c air filter! That is a little hard for me because the a/c filter housing in the ceiling. This way, the a/c guy can do it and I don’t have to climb a ladder!
