It is difficult to become an HVAC technician

I never realized how difficult it would be to reach my dreams.

  • Ever since I was a little kid, I have wanted to become an HVAC technician.

I know that this sounds strange to many of you. Most kids want to grow up to be teachers, doctors, police officers, or firefighters. However, since I was a little kid, I have wanted to become an HVAC technician. It is probably due to the fact that my dad and my grandfather were both HVAC technicians. I spent a lot of time as a kid watching my dad fixing our furnace or our central air conditioner, and as I became a little older, I was taught and allowed to help with fixing the HVAC units. When I became 18, I knew that I would immediately start on the path to becoming an HVAC technician. I applied to the same union that my dad was working for, and I was called in to take a test to see if I was qualified to become an HVAC technician. I was already prepared to test in things like math, science, and English because my dad warned me that becoming an HVAC technician would require these things. However, I was still surprised at the difficulty level of those tests. I was one of only two people that passed, and the HVAC technicians told us that they would inform us soon about when our interview would be. Literally a year later, I had an interview with the HVAC trade school, and they told me that when they had an opening in their school, I might begin training as an HVAC technician. It has been a year since then, and my father told me that this process is normal. I can’t believe how hard it is!
